Toronto Homelessness Awareness Day

Dear Government,
If you simply took all the money that is spent through grants and tax breaks to Charities and Third Parties to alleviate homelessness, those funds could then be used to actually house the homeless. I have a grade nine education and I can see the current model does not seek to end homelessness. Does the current model create jobs? Sure, the average homeless person deals with a half dozen social workers from these various agencies in addition to government workers. But creating jobs doesn’t solve homelessness, housing people does. The problem needs to be dealt with head on, if the issue is that people need housing then give them housing. Once they have housing we can deal with any other issues, whether that is unemployment, mental illness or whatever.
